Top Trendy Men’s Suit Styles – UW MTM Insight

  • 30 September 2022

Men’s suits are the ultimate wardrobe staple that fits occasions and routine smart wear as well. There are different types of men's suits as per design, style, and type. The idea that a single fit and type is suitable for every man has become a myth and doesn’t apply to this garment. Of course, the changing trends change the style and details of a suit, but this never changes the art of wearing a suit. That’s not to mention how different occasions and events also change the need for a suit.

The truth is that men’s suits should remain as dynamic as their life.

Although the smart suit wear arena of menswear is huge and can have numerous guides and an encyclopedia on its own, today we’re bringing it down to the main factors of a suit. This is an informative guide we have compiled so you are aware of everything you need to know about SUIT. Whether you’re a smart-casual dress person, a businessman, or somewhere in between, this garment is your must-have.

TYPES OF MEN’S SUITS

Single-Breasted Suit

Among all the types of men's suits, the single-breasted suit is the most common style worn by the majority. This style is also modern, functional, versatile, and appropriate type for a number of occasions. You can easily identify this suit: jacket or blazer with one row of two or three buttons close to the seam. This is the most commonly worn suit by 99% of professional men around the globe. The single-breasted suit elongates the torso, creating a slimmer appearance and an elegant appeal.

Buttons: 1, 2, or 3, 2 being the most common.

Lapels: Notch, peak, or shawl lapel, the notch is the most common

Double-Breasted Suit

The double-breasted suit for men was once relegated to formal events only. These days the double-breasted suit is taking the limelight for fashion-forward men, especially in Europe. The modernized appeal of this suit is diversified with colors and the peak lapel. This suit is generally for men who want a wider look of the chest and have a slimmer body structure. You can wear the double-breasted suit at semi-formal and business events. However, there’s a designer tip for this suit: despite the number of buttons on this blazer, leave (ALWAYS) the top button fastened and the bottom button un-fastened whether sitting or standing.

Buttons: 4, 6, or 8 max, 6 is the most common.

Lapels: Peak or shawl lapels, the peak lapel is the most common.

Unstructured Blazer

The unstructured blazer suit type is for the laid-back man who wants a casually smart look that is easy to carry and comfortable at the same time. This blazer is generally paired up with blue denim jeans or chinos in a smart fit. Although the name says otherwise, the unstructured blazer is the perfect choice for any body shape that will allow it to drape naturally. If the same structured blazer has padding inside, it will break free from the laid-back aesthetics.

Key features: No interior padding

Half Canvas & Full Canvas Suit

The half canvas suit is budget friendly and lets you wear a comfortable form of a suit with a sewn-in canvas piece into the chest and lapel of the jacket and then fused into the bottom. The half-canvas suit is comfortable and highly breathable. The full canvas suit on the other hand has a fully and perfectly molded fabric that sits properly. This type of suit lasts longer and is on the expensive side but is flexible for a comfortable movement.

SUIT STYLES AS PER FITS

Slim Fit Suit

A slim-fit suit is designed and tailored to take away the extra fat from your body. This is known to be the quality suit that ultimately makes you look stylish – narrowing down your chest and waist – highlighting the built muscles of the athletic types. The basic reason behind this is that a slim fit suit is true to the body’s natural contour, provides enough space for the body to move flexibly, and at the same time not give away too much. This suit is more of a casual style suit.

Features:

Jacket: Slim fit

Lapel: A slimmer lapel notch

Pant: Slim fit pants, narrow at the legs, cropped at the opening.

Classic Fit Suit

The men who like spending less time overthinking how to wear a suit or how the different kinds make you look, the classic fit is their ultimate choice. This kind of suit is very comfortable in feel and it doesn’t resort to loose aesthetics – it’s called classic for reasons it holds true. It’s also a convenient choice for Monday to Friday wearing, and the same classic jacket can be worn with smart-fit cotton trousers or chinos.

Features:

Jacket: Classic fit

Lapel: A standard collar design

Pant: Regular fit

Modern Fit Suit

If you cannot fit into a slim fit suit, or for you, a slim fit suit is a bit uncomfortable to carry, and you want a sartorial sensibility at the same time – think of a modern fit suit. This kind of suit style is created for men who hover in the realm of comfortability with style, between slim fit and a classic fit. A fitted look with enough space for breathability. You can work on your accessories and make this suit look the best of a suit kind. You can even wear this to casual outings and to dressier occasions.

Features:

Jacket: Slim fit, short length

Lapel: Slim

Pant: Flat front

SUIT STYLES AS PER LAPEL

Notch Lapel Suit

The notch lapel is the backbone of a single-breasted suit jacket, the most common style as well. The notch lapel has a distinguishing mark that’s easily identifiable: where the collar meets the lapel. The notch lapel is the most versatile kind of lapel that is designed for men who like to keep it modernized, want to fit into every occasion, or don’t know how to choose the lapel.

Key features: A popular 80’s style

Shawl Lapel Suit

The shawl lapel gives a smooth and uninterrupted appeal on the first look – a suit perfect for black-tie events. This kind of lapel is generally for tuxedo-style suits that give a fancy dinner look. Any man suit with a shawl lapel is entitled to a sense of class and distinction. These lapels for men's suits are designed to acquire a welcoming complement to the formal wear style.

Key features: Iconic smoking jacket style with rounded sides

Peak Lapel Suit

An extremely stylish type of lapel style that has sharp angles for a sharp look. This lapel style is mostly for double-breasted suits and is a prominent figure for formal events and occasions. However, with this lapel style sophistication is at stake, so wear it wisely.

Key features: 16th-century popular style

SUIT STYLE AS PER VENT

Centre Vent

The center vent option in a men’s suit is created for men who have a slimmer physique. This has always been the most popular choice and cost-effective take on the vent. You will look and feel confident and stylish by all means in the center vent style, where the bet is for a well-tailored suit. The only con for this style is that it doesn’t allow free movement.

Side Vent

The modern man likes to move around freely in anything he chooses to wear. The side vent suit style is the perfect option for such men. On the plus side, the side vent is created to give great shape at the midsection while leaving enough room for flexibility below the waist. This also involves a loss of bunching on sitting down, giving in more comfort. The cons here is the cost of having side vents added.

No Vent

The short-heighted guys opt for a suit jacket with no vent. Such a jacket style in suit hugs to the torso, creating a slimmer look, making it suitable for special occasion fitted wear. The cons here is an improper movement of the body, leading to a less comfortable fit of the suit. Therefore, no vent suit styles are designed for petite men and men who can compromise with being uncomfortable in any suit style.

UNIWORTH MADE TO MEASURE SERVICE EXPLAINED

We understand that we all come in different shapes and sizes, so finding something that truly fits can be a bit of a challenge. Sometimes, we find the perfect-looking suit, but somehow it gets loose on the chest, a bit longer than usual, and maybe just not in the right color.

With made to measure service, the first thing that is eradicated is the problem above – a compromise.

With Uniworth Made to Measure service, the benefits are more than the routine; Quality, style, and precision are key to our MTM offerings.

Our silhouettes stem from the magical mind of our designers. The fabric offering — much like the clothing that fills shops — is a curated benefit. We offer an edit of fabrics which, while still extensive, makes the experience less intimidating.

We have open consultations, so you can find out what the suit or even just the jacket or the shirt will suit you, and we narrow down the fabric choices to two or three, even the design. This is often to make made to measure easy for you. We think it's a fantastic move, progressive yet equally clandestine and traditional.

We recognize that this is a different world where our attention and time are strained. Not everyone gets lunch hours to nip off visiting the tailors over and over again for demands and alterations. How good would it be to feel annoyed at the very last moment?

We take that stress away. We keep you connected until the very last minute to completion – ultimate Suit!
